Andrew started riding horses around just 5 years of age, when he joined the local pony club. Up until age 18 he worked on a sheep station in Tasmania using horses for work. After that Andrew moved to mainland Australia and worked on cattle stations, where he broke horses in and learnt a great deal from a horse tailor (the man in charge of the horses the ringer uses every day). He showed Andrew different ways of dealing with horses and learnt to work with horses natural instincts instead of against them. Andrew then started to study horse psychology, reading any horsemanship book he could get his hands on and attending many clinics over the years.
Andrew then moved to Alice Springs where he was riding horses for pleasure only. Stabling his horses at a large facility, Andrew got to see first hand how many others were handling their horses, in a variety of different disciplines. Often he noticed people lacked feel and timing when trying to achieve new manoeuvres in their training, but would often blame the horse, get frustrated and just give up.
Andrew’s teaching philosophy is. If the student doesn’t understand it is because the teacher has not presented it in a way or terminology that the student can understand.
Andrew has successfully competed in western events (reining, trail, horsemanship, cutting, team penning, equitation) as well as Dressage, Show Jumping, Cross Country and Working Equitation.
Andrew has a passion for Working Equitation which combines all his skills into one sport Andrew is available to teach all over Australia

I ride hard
I teach people to teach horses
I know what a horse needs
Experience has shown Andrew that a large number of riders don’t have a solid grasp on the basic principles of horse training and riding. Andrew can train a horse to do any manoeuvre, but when he gives the horse back to the owner, the owner needs to know how to continue with that training and development. Andrew’s aim is to set up an effective form of communication between horse and human using body language to enable students to develop a hierarchy where they become the leader and their horse a happy and willing partner.
